Programme 2007

Saturday 20th January - Spinning Workshop 10am - 4pm Scout Hall, Dinas Powys

Workshop - SPINNING (Wheels available). INKLE WEAVING (looms available) and KUMIHIMO BRAIDING (again looms and bobbins available). Visitors and non practioners do come and try your hand at any or all of these techniques.

Tuesday 6th February 7.30 p.m. Talk - Kathy Williams - Tapestry/Rug Weaver will talk about her own work. Kathy is known for her intricate woven rugs. Visitor fee £2.

Tuesday 6th March 7.30 p.m. Annual General Meeting - followed by 'Show and Tell'. Members discuss and explain new items or techniques on work completed or in progress.

Saturday 31st March 10.00a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Weaving Workshop - with Kathy Williams who will teach interlocking and other tapestry techniques using frame looms. (Some will be available to borrow). Call Secretary for more details (see homepage).

Tuesday 1st May 7.30 p.m. Talk - Chinese Knots - Suzen Millidot will talk about and demonstrate the making of these forms of decoration, their structure and uses. She will have copies of her own books for sale.

Saturday 2nd June 10.00a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Felt Workshop - Felt making using the needle felted method with Olwen Veevers. Materials (needles and fibres) will be provided (small charge payable to the Tutor). Limited to 10 participants.

Tuesday 3rd July 7.30 p.m. - Talk - John Cunningham, Professional Textile Dyer, will give a talk on the intricacies of colour and colour measurement; he uses mainly chemical dyes and this should be interesting to all who dye their own fibres, yarns or fabric.

August 20th - 27th - Annual Exhibition @ St. Fagans Museum - For one week, Members wil be exhibiting their work and demonstrating their skills. Entry to the museum is free, some of the members work will be for sale.

Tuesday 4th September 7.30 p.m. - Talk - Falkland Isles Tourism, Culture/Sheep - Annabelle Spencer will talk about the Isles, the way of life and the sheep that inhabit them. Fleece/sales table.

Saturday 13th October 10.00a.m. to 4.00 p.m. -Tassels for Christmas -Jane Nicholls will lead this workshop and provide the materials required for the day (small charge payable to Tutor). Please bring scissors.

Tuesday 6th November 7.30 p.m. - Talk - Stacey Harvey-Brown will give a talk entitled Looming Life based on her own work. Formerley a professional musician, she switched to weaving and found it totally absorbing.
